Samsung Galaxy Ace gets a flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich

Not much time has passed since Android’s next major version 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich was announced and shown off along with Galaxy Nexus. Later consumers were either delighted or disappointed to get the news whether their device is going to be updated or not. Samsung, having so many devices in the market, kept a check on the devices getting ICS updates and focused on the high end spectrum. This left a lot of devices and users in the blue. One such snub was Samsung Galaxy Ace community.

Ace is quite a superstar in the mid-range market in many countries like India, Philippines and Malaysia and enjoys a very active developer community. So the developers took the matter in their hands and after several alphas and betas, the development seems to be maturing at a healthy pace.

The current ICS build for Samsung Galaxy Ace is in its 8th beta.  The build is based on v4.0.4 original CM9 sources and boasts of all the CyanogenMod 9 capabilities including BLN, overclocking etc. The development is still in progress some things like camera will not work.

You can get your hands on the build here.

Here is a video of the build in action:
