Google’s Purchase of Motorola approved by European Union

by Steve - on Feb 13th 2012 - No Comments

Just now, the European Commission has approved Google Inc’s $12.5 Billion buyout of mobile handset maker Motorola Mobility. This will likely be the same result when the US Department of Justice reviews the proposed buyout later this week.

The EU Commission did say that they would be keeping keen tabs on the company and other rivals to make sure that no EU antitrust laws are being breached.

“We have approved the acquisition… because upon careful examination, this transaction does not itself raise competition issues,” EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said in a statement.
