While ARM architecture dominates the mobile scene. The x86 architecture dominates the home desktop. Windows, Linux, and even Apple’s Mac run on it. Because of this Android being open source, it was only a matter of time before Android started appearing on x86 based devices. The brave souls over at the Android-x86 Project have developed an Android build that runs on the AMD powered MSI WindPad.
The build is based off of the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. It is currently in beta so don’t expect that everything will work perfectly at this stage. If you don’t happen to have a WindPad, the Android-x86 Project also has Android builds for a number of different computers, mostly netbooks. If you’re feeling up to tinkering with Android on your netbook, give their download page a look.
