The Good

Cuteness might be off the charts, interactive, lots to do.

The Not So Good

Cuteness might be off the charts, battery hit is kinda high, lag between click and dog movement

Overall

Overall a solid little live wallpaper that appeals to the younger crowd, has it’s little quirks, but definitely worth a download.

There are quite a few live wallpapers out there and some of them just make you want to make you tilt your head to the side and say “aww.” Sleepy Dog live wallpaper is one of those apps. The idea is you get an anime-style puppy, make it super cute and make it do all sorts of things when you interact with it. The idea is a sound one, and it should work wonderfully, and in this case it does — mostly.

Being a male and not exactly well-versed in the realm of cute, I didn’t know what to make of this doe-eyed puppy that stared at me as I loaded up the app for the first time. My initial reaction was to blow it off in a cloud of testosterone and dismiss the app as garbage. However, I knew that I am not the target audience and couldn’t fairly judge the app so I went and found those that could.

What I ended up with was a teenage girl and a toddler. I figured that between the two of them I could garner the exact amount of cute that an app like this would require and so if the Sleepy Dog live wallpaper was up for the task. The teenage girl slightly dismissed it and said it was cute, she liked the dog falling asleep and all but didn’t really like the style (anime) of the drawing. However, my toddler loved it.

My biggest gripe about the wallpaper is just that it is slow, when the world is used to ultra fast response, swiping your screen left and right and then a second or two later having the puppy respond onscreen is something that we are not really used to anymore. This was well illustrated when my 2 year old swiped the screen and tried to play with the puppy and he ended up putting the puppy into a seizure as all the commands caught up. It’s not like I am running old hardware, the S4 in the Samsung Galaxy S III handles all that I can throw at it with no problem.

Overall it’s a cute little wallpaper, and one that might be targeted towards parents trying to keep their little ones busy while they are working on something else. The battery life hit does seem to be a little on the high side with this app and that concerns me. However, the price is right and it kept my little one entertained so it does have that going for it. Give it a look, and leave a comment below.
