When it come to custom launchers on smartphones there’s definitely no shortage. But when it comes to tablets have do have a shortage by definition. The world renowned GO Launcher team have been working their backsides off to bring out one of the first true tablet launcher. Their new app, Go Launcher HD for Pad, has been specifically designed from the ground up for Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich tablets, and it’s a free download in the Google Play Store. This brand new made for tablet launcher, not one that was made for smartphones and adapted for tablets then, you’ve a surprise in store.![]() Just a short note here, GO Launcher HD is for tablets only and will NOT run on your smartphone even if it’s running ICS, Google Play Store will not let you install it.Yes it has bells and whistles, including customizable home screens and animations, a new interface for adding icons and widgets, and more settings than you can shake a S pen at. The basic layout and structure of the Honeycomb/ICS launcher is a sound base, but adds in a special section for GO’s extensive collection of free and paid widgets. In a nod towards the smartphone version of the launcher, there’s an option for a persistent set of docked shortcuts along the bottom row that are customizable which you can add to, not unlike the tray icons in Samsung’s Galaxy Tab series. Expect this to improve, as the app is only at version 1.01.1 at the moment. Other small complaints include ICS-style automatic folders and a few widget incompatibilities. Not bad for a launcher just out the box. A few features needed such as custom icons for folders and transitions. As for the scrolling wallpaper, use multiscreen live wallpaper. It works well with Go Launcher HD. |
